The article presents a brief overview of works devoted to the synthesis, study of photophysical and spectral properties and analysis of applications of semiconductor nanocrystals – quantum dots (CT). The fundamental laws linking the morphology of CT with their optical-spectral characteristics are discussed, as well as some theoretical models that allow describing various effects and processes: quantum-dimensional effect, electron-phonon interaction, local field effects, flickering photoluminescence of single CT. The results of original experimental and theoretical studies of the temperature dependences of the spectra of colloidal CT with a CdSe emitting core are presented, which made it possible to clarify the nature of the formation of the spectra of single CT and their ensembles.
