At the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2024, significant attention was devoted to science. One of the important events was the foresight session “Russia and the World by 2100: Managing the Future,” organized by the Center for Modeling the Future in Education, Economics and Social and Humanitarian Spheres. The session was moderated by the head of the Troitsk branch of the LPI RAS, full member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor Andrey Vitalyevich Naumov. The SPIEF session was attended by over 100 participants from 16 countries (Zimbabwe, Spain, Russia, Ukraine, Paraguay, Ecuador, Peru, China, Guinea, Angola, the USA, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Montenegro, Venezuela, Egypt). As part of the session, the best youth foresight projects in forecasting megatrends until 2100 were presented, which had been prepared by the participants over several weeks, and during the final stage, experts assisted in preparing presentations and speeches. As well as highly qualified senior researcher, head of the “Precision Optical Technologies” Technopark Department at LPI RAS Anton Vladlenovich Zalygin.
Anton Zalygin also participated in the youth program section “Tomorrow: Focus and Tools of Future Scientists” where he discussed the current projects at the LPI RAS and the tasks being addressed at the Troitsk branch. For instance, they are developing their own highly coherent tunable diode lasers and medical lasers using copper vapor for dermatology and cosmetology, which have no equivalents in the world. Additionally, they are working on optical components with a roughness approximately of 1 Å, mirrors with low losses (reflectivity no less than 99.999%), mirrors with high beam stability, spectral filters with a half-width no more than 3 Å and a transmission coefficient of over 90%, as well as other types of optical coatings for a wide range of optical products: dichroic mirrors, polarizers, anti-reflective optics, spectral filters, beam splitters, metallic mirrors, and others. Issues regarding the involvement of young LPI RAS staff in scientific and organizational activities were also discussed.
Additionally, as part of the LPI RAS delegation, students Ilya Malinin, Olga Mazaeva, and Maria Naidyoshkina participated in the International Youth Economic Forum within the framework of SPIEF-2024, attending practical lectures, masterclasses, and expert sessions on topics relevant to young people.
SPIEF-2024 has become an important platform for showcasing the achievements of Russian science and technology, as well as for discussing future prospects and supporting young scientists.
