Topic: Technology for manufacturing cells with alkali metal pairs, controlling their characteristics and applying them in metrology
Abstract: Many types of quantum sensors are based on the spectral and metrological characteristics of transitions in alkali metal atoms. Recently, special interest has been shown in the development of compact atomic clocks, magnetometers, and gyroscopes, which use miniature atomic cells. These cells allow the localization of an ensemble of atoms, protect it from external disturbances, prepare and probe the desired state of atoms with laser radiation. The report presents an original technology for manufacturing miniature cells using laser welding and sealing, filling the cells with alkali metals and buffer gases. The advantages and disadvantages of the developed technology are discussed in comparison with other methods of manufacturing atomic cells. The methods we used to control the metrological characteristics of the manufactured cells (saturated absorption spectroscopy, coherent population trapping spectroscopy) are described. Several examples of the application of cells in quantum sensors are provided.
